BGWAC Chicago Portfolio Building Experience
The weekend of June 23 I was in Chicago to attend the Brown Girl with a Camera® Portfolio Building Experience. The event is the brainchild of Ruby Melton of RubyElla Photography. She's based out D.C., and holds these experiences around the country. I've always wanted to attend one of these events so when Chicago was on the schedule I knew that I was going to sign-up. Our theme was "Fitness," and we had four beautiful models. We were at a park near the West Loop, but we branched out into other areas as well.
The event afforded me the opportunity to meet and collaborate with the other photographers in attendance. It was such a great experience working without competition. There were no egos, but only help and support. It's my hope that I can continue fostering relationships with everyone that I met. The two pluses to the event were: 1) My mother-in-law attended; and 2) I was able to see a fellow photographer, Marc Anthony of Images by Marc Anthony. Marc saved my hide by allowing me to use his back-up camera because I damaged mine. Yeah, I know. Not the best time to damage your camera.
The pinnacle of the event was the dinner afterwards. Oh my goodness! The dinner was catered by Chef Candace of Indulging in Flavors. The homemade macaroni and cheese was amazing. My entree was seared mango lime salmon, and it was delicious. To top it all off, we dined on the rooftop deck looking at the most beautiful skyline the world.
I cannot share the final images yet, but I can share some "Behind the Scenes" images. I've also listed all of the participants from the event.
