Last weekend, I, along with members of my photographer group, traveled to Las Cruces, NM. We were headed to the White Sands National Monument for an overnight trip. It's a 5 1/2 hour drive from Phoenix to Las Cruces, and the scenery is beautiful. We left the Phoenix area at 6:30am, and arrived about 2:30pm. We lost an hour during the drive, and we stopped for lunch. On the way, we crossed the Continental Divide, and crossed over the Rio Grande. It's amazing the amount of history that we encountered on this trip.
The White Sands National Monument is beautiful. The sand is compromised of gypsum sand, and it's cool to the touch. I walked barefoot on the sand, and didn't experience any discomfort. We were out there for about four hours taking pictures, and enjoying the scenery. As we were headed out, we checked out rearview mirrors, and say the most spectular sunset. We thought that we would miss it because there was a great deal of cloud cover that afternoon and evening. We were well rewarded.
